First Edition Identifiers
This book was published by Burroughs, Inc. on Sep. 13, 1940. It is one of the few Burroughs, Inc. first editions that does not have blue cloth boards. Instead the boards are of a light gray pebbled material. The lettering on the cover and spine is red, and, the words “First Edition” appear on the copyright page. Like almost all other Burroughs, Inc. publications, there is a red stain applied to the top of the pages. John Coleman Burroughs illustrated the dust jacket, frontispiece, and 22 chapter headpieces. The dust jacket came in both a laminated and unlaminated version.
This title was not reprinted in hardback again until 1979 by Gregg Press.

Above is the first edition laminated dust jacket. I would grade it “Fine” as it is almost flawless.
