First Edition Identifiers
This book was first published on Feb. 15, 1935 by Burroughs, Inc. exactly one year after publishing “Pirates of Venus”. It states “First Edition” on the copyright page. The book is bound in pebbled blue cloth and has red lettering on the cover and spine. J. Allen St. John illustrated the dust jacket and 5 interior drawings.
Burroughs, Inc. reprinted this book again in 1940 and 1948. The 1940 book cover is red and has blue lettering. This 1948 printing has tan covers with dark red lettering.
The front cover illustration of the first edition dust jacket is outlined in gold, and is the exact same dust jacket used on the 1940 red cover book. The 1948 dust jacket has the front cover illustration outlined in black.
